Areas of practice
I aim to offer an empathic, non-judgemental therapeutic relationship in which we can talk openly and genuinely. I believe people have the resources within themselves to respond to the challenges they face, and that it is my role to help them identify and develop that capacity.
My supervision approach is underpinned by my person-centred theory, philosophy and practice. I work with both experienced and trainee therapists, and teach on a post-graduate supervision programme in Edinburgh for a children's mental health charity.
As a trainer, I started on introductory, foundation and diploma level counselling courses, and for six years I was a tutor on the MSc in Person-Centred and Experiential Psychotherapy at Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute in Nottingham. Since moving back to Edinburgh, I have been a staff trainer for a children's mental health charity, working mainly with school staff to develop and deliver a whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing.

Special areas
I have worked a lot with trauma, particularly with adult survivors of sexual abuse, in both a charity setting and in my independent practice. I aim to work at a pace and in a way that feels right to each individual.
Having been a teacher in a variety of roles and settings for almost 20 years before training as a therapist, I work with children and young people (over 10 years old). I have worked as a school counsellor, as well as in further and higher education settings.
I have offered intercultural supervision for a Race in Therapy organisation and am keen to practise in ways that are anti-oppressive and which recognise cultural contexts. I welcome opportunities to work with people from all social locations and intersections.
I work with many neurodivergent clients, supervisees and trainees and offering/discovering what works (and what doesn't) for each individual.
I have been a research fellow championing the person-centred approach on an interdisciplinary project and am particularly interested in reflexivity in research, and its implications for being a reflexive practitioner.
