SUICIDE AND SUICIDAL THINKING
Potential suicide is one of the most challenging situations for a counsellor to encounter.
This workshop will offer an opportunity to explore the main issues, and will include:
- The ethical dilemma - sanctity of life or client autonomy?
- Why do people consider taking their own life?
- Risk assessment
- Offering a therapeutic relationship
- Safety plans
- Supervision and Self-Care
6 HOURS CPD
Les Johns trainer:- Les qualified as a social worker then spent 20 years in the Probation Service before taking early retirement. He has since worked as a counsellor, supervisor and trainer for a further 20 years and is an accredited counsellor and supervisor. His original training was psychodynamic but he has evolved via other major approaches to become a committed person-centred counsellor.
However, this CPD is, he believes, relevant to counsellors and other interested parties, of all persuasions.
Location
CATERHAM COMMUNITY CHURCH CR3 5NF. Please arrive for 9.15am for a 9.30am start.
Light refreshments will be provided but please bring your own lunch.
Accessibility
There is a wheelchair accessible entrance and wheelchair accessible toilet facilities. However not all rooms offer easy access.
The centre has some flexibility regarding room choice so if you have special access requirements or any other special needs then please contact Dorlisa before booking a place. She will work with you to ascertain whether a room or facilities can be booked that will be suit your requirements.
